Testimonials

Dear Flavia:

I am Don Bates. My daughter, Emily Natarella, and I stayed at San Lucas on August 17 & 18. We want you to know how much we enjoyed ourselves and what a unique experience it was. You have really created something special. We want to come back for sure.

The three ladies, Elda, Pati, and Maria Elena were so gracious and beautiful, and the food was as good as I've ever had anywhere. We enjoyed just hanging around in the kitchen with them. I want to thank you for enlightening us on the culture and the problems that face the general population around Copan. Your efforts to make a better life for them is inspiring.

Dear Flavia:

We have arrived safely home in Anchorage after two interesting weeks in Honduras. Because I neglected to sign your guestbook, I must use the impersonal medium of e-mail to tell you how much we appreciated our time at Hacienda San Lucas. The setting is magnificent. The food was wonderful. Your hospitality was greatly appreciated. You are doing great things in Copan. I hope this email will find you well. Thanks again for everything.

Dear Flavia:

Just returned from Honduras last night and wanted to tell you again what a beautiful, charming place you have. It was the highlight to our trip (Pico Bonito and Paya Bay on Roatan were also nice, but not as special as Hacienda San Lucas). We enjoyed learning your family's history and all that you are doing for the local people. The horseback riding to the villages was great. I also enjoyed working in the kitchen with the local women learning how to make tortillas and cook typical local food on the wood stove. You did a great job accommodating our kosher dietary needs. (I'm going to send for your head kitchen girl to come to my house now that I taught her how to run a kosher kitchen!!!) Relaxing on the hammocks and dining by candlelight on the veranda overlooking the twinkling lights of Copan was just beautiful. Entering your room at night warmed by the glow of all those candles was truly magical. We're glad you decided to preserve your father's dream because your place is truly a special haven. I enjoyed getting to know you during our stay. I will send some pictures when I sort them out. Send our regards to everyone...miss you all.

Flavia,

We arrived safely back home to piles of snow and cold weather. Our time in Copan was truly magical - especially our time at the hacienda. What a beautiful place. I can certainly understand your feeling like a part of the place - and putting your heart and soul into making it so special. It's so beautiful. If I ever feel the need to really get away, to take some time to myself and look inward, to relax and luxuriate in the beauty of nature, I can't think of a better place to go.

I want to thank you for all your kindness and generosity - from making arrangements for us to take the bus, to the horseback riding and hiking to Los Sapos, to the wonderful candelit meal on the hillside. The story of your family and the role that they've played - and continue to play through you - in the history of Copan is fascinating. Also, it was great fun talking to you and meeting your friends at happy hour. Thank you again for making our stay in Copan such a wonderful and memorable experience.

Love,

Delores

Dear Flavia and Staff:

What a wonderful, exquisite, perfect paradise you have created here!!!. Certainly I can tell it was truly a labor of love. The basic way of life / no electricity, TV, phone, make this place peaceful and tranquil. It will always be very special to us; even after 40 years of marriage, our love blossomed even more fully here.

We will be back bringing other family with us. The birding here is great and we'll do all we can to promote it.

Much love,

Hello Flavia!

I just wanted to let you know how much we all enjoyed our Copan visit. Everything from the Hedman Alas bus to the ultimate highlight - staying at your beautiful hacienda, was perfect. Patti just couldn't believe all the wonderful things she was experiencing. And of course the meals your ladies served were excellent. We had so looked forward to our stay at the hacienda and then it was all over so quickly as was my sisters entire 2 week visit. Unbelievable! I know Patti will talk about Copan, your hacienda and you to everyone she knows back in Chicago so there'll be more word of mouth advertising for you!

We wish you a most happy and peaceful holiday and a prosperous New Year. We look forward already to our next visit to Copan & Hacienda San Lucas!

The best always,

Veronica Kaiser

Dear Flavia:

It was such a joy meeting you! Our stay at the hacienda was the highlight of our amazing adventure in Honduras. Please tell your girls that we never had food anywhere near as good as theirs no matter where we went or how much we paid! (Feel free to tell Kent Forte that, too, although the dining at Pico Bonito was very enjoyable as well.)

Thank you for taking such good care of us, and for giving us a taste of real Honduran culture and introducing us to so many interesting and kind people. We will recommend you to certain special friends, and encourage them to visit. Please feel free to use us as a reference in New York or online if you ever need one - we would be happy to share our experience. Say hi to Bole and rub his ears for us. We miss him, and wish we could have taken him home to meet our dogs. Please also tell Roger to give the burro a glass of wine for us - we think he might like a change from his usual beer the next time he invokes his right to enter the house.

Affectionately,

Amanda & Brian

Thank you San Lucas for sharing the best of Honduras with my parents!

The morning mist over the mountains.
Butterflies, electric blue and as big as a tamale.
The giggle of the girls as they create wonderful treats on the wooden stove.
A rainbow of birds so willing to share our fruit peelings
Blossoms to gaze upon of every shape, size and color.
Your rum cake..what more can we say!
Woods moist and thick to explore on a childlike adventure.
Mornings fresh and clean filled with "panqueques".
Nights warm and dreamy filled with candlelight that sweeps us away into this magical, wonderland called San Lucas!
We head down the hill,
Bodies relaxed, heads cleared, hearts warmed, souls anticipating our next visit.

Much love,

Querida Flavia:

"Flavia, we are safely but regretfully back in the US again, seemingly so soon after I first emailed you back in the spring, and already homesick for your beautiful hacienda, truly one of the most lovely places I have ever been."
